Here is a story I wrote for the FSA test in grade 7.

Tears

Crying is a curious thing. Two years ago I thought I would never stop. I have nearly forgotten what happened that cold winter night. All that matters now is I have The Stone of Bazile and The Stone of Bazile is safe.

I live on Thebazile in the town of Thebaz. In the summer it is so very hot and in the winter our town freezes. If you go outside without the spell of warming you would freeze to death. My mother, Rose, did that cold winter night.

I was inside cooking dinner, my father was away, when I heard my mom call,

"Clarissa darling, how long until supper?"

I responded, "Call me Rissa mom! I just need to go into the hot-house to get some vegetables." I then headed for the hot-house which is a small building in our backyard made for growing vegetables. As I was picking a handful of carrots I heard my mom scream.

"You can't take it! No! Please, it's too dangerous! No! No! I'll die if I go outside! Please, No!"

We had been robbed and my mom was murdered. The Stone of Bazile had been taken by a gang of robbers. How they got into our house I do not know.

The Stone of Bazile is iridescent and holds the power to destroy Thebazile. My mom, my dad and I were the protectors of The Stone of Bazile. We had failed to protect it.

My mom had been pushed outside to her death. I hurried to the coat rack and bundled myself in several coats. I then dragged my mom's lifeless body inside. It was now my job to find The Stone of Bazile.

I ran back to the hot-house, grabbing a sack on the way, and placed every vegetable I could reach in the sack. Then I ran to my room, placed my magic book in the sack, sprinkled a bit of my magic dust on me and whispered the spell of warmth. I put the remaining dust in my sack. I was now fully equipped to track down the robbers. Outside there was still a bit of a path left from the robbers so I quickly followed it.

I ran for hours and hours until I was so tired I collapsed on the ground. I untangled myself from the sack and searched through it until I found a couple vegetables. Then I made a tiny supper. This is when I regretted not bringing blankets. A little bit cold I flipped through my magic book until I found two spells. One to start a fire and the other to make me a blanket. It was not my best try at making a blanket but then again I had only done it once before and that time I wasn't as tired. I then went to sleep.

The next morning I ate a couple more vegetables and started running again. When I got hungry I would stop and eat a carrot or some other vegetable I had packed and when I got tired I sat down and rested for a couple minutes. That night again I made myself a tiny supper and slept.

On the third day of my journey I was starting to become tired from all the running but I kept going. I kept running until I could no longer run. When this happened I would eat and rest. At dinner I opened the sack to make me another tiny supper. I looked inside and there were two things, my magic book and my magic dust. I had eaten all the food.

I was just about to lie down and die when some creature came flying out of the bushes and started attacking me. I grabbed my magic book and turned to the page with the stunning enchantment, I couldn't kill this creature.

After the creature was stunned I walked over to it to see what it was. I recognized the creature from my book of magical animals. What was it? I thought and thought. I thought until I could barely think. The creature stirred so I thought as hard as I could, I looked at the creature carefully. A dragon? No, it wasn't a dragon, it had no hands or feet. Then it hit me, it was an aventlo. I hurried over to help it up and it quickly decided to like me.

Now that I knew it wasn't evil I lay down because I knew now that I had been foolish to think I would find The Stone of Bazile. The aventlo started pulling me along the path even though it was only about a foot big. I decided it wasn't going to stop any time soon and it was best to keep walking and hope it didn't follow me. I started to walk and amazingly the aventlo followed me! Oh well, I might as well let it come with me, it might become useful. This is when I realized I didn't know its gender and it had no name. Recalling my book of magical animals I figured out that it was a girl. A name, what would be a good name? Dragana? No. Kaida? That would work. I now had a name so I started to call the aventlo Kaida and she quickly learned to respond to it.

Kaida then began to lead me into a forest which we were near by and I called after her.

"Kaida where are you taking me?" Of course Kaida couldn't respond so I continued following her.

At last Kaida stopped, I looked at what she was flying over, a berry bush. Kaida began to eat and I quickly joined in. Every once and a while I would put some in my sack wrapped in leaves.

Hours went by and finally Kaida and I set out again with Kaida leading the way, she seemed to know where she was going.

Days went by and whenever we ran low on food Kaida would lead me to another bush covered in berries and whenever we got tired Kaida and I would cuddle and go to sleep.

At last I came to a huge tree and peered around it. The robbers were all sleeping around The Stone of Bazile. I took out my spell book and quietly flipped through the pages until I found the sleeping spell. I said the enchantment and then crept to where The Stone of Bazile lay. I quickly and quietly placed The Stone of Bazile in my sack and crept back to the tree.

Once at the tree I ran, I ran as fast as I could all the way back to my house. Once at my house I placed The Stone of Bazile on its perch. That's when it hit me. My mom was dead. The tears began to flow.
